Flickr has just recently released information on the most popular camera phones used by the Flickr Community. Flickr states that the info is based on the meta data in the EXIF associated with the pictures uploaded by there members you can learn more about how they collect the info at their site. The results are quite surprising, but some of the most popular cameras on Flickr are camera phones. Now the interesting part is that the most popular with the Flickr community are the Nokia and Sony Ericsson Camera Phones.
I decided to research a little further and checked out Big Huge Labs who keeps track of the most popular digital camera's and camera
manufacturers
in the flickr community. I noticed that Nokia was the 9th most popular manufacturer of camera phones followed at 12 by Sony Ericsson. From the top 20 manufacturers, 3 of them are camera phone manufacturers. The models Flickr listed from Nokia are the N Series Camera Phones, which have more then 2mp camera modules. Also, if you notice from the list on the right that Nokia last week was at 11th place and now is 9th place, a fairly significant jump in one week. One can speculate that jump is a result of better image quality. For the most popular Sony Ericsson models it is from the Walkman line which also has better then 2mp builtin camera modules. With camera phone image quality improving, and the optics improving more people will be getting these newer improved phones. I think soon this list will become dominated by cell phone manufacturers. In the next post I go further into Nokia's data on Flickr which you can read here:
Yay! Go N70!
